Wintour recalled that when she saw the premiere of the film, she went to Prada that same evening and did not know how the story would end. According to her, Miranda’s portrayal turned out to be “caricatured”, but overall she liked the film: “It was a role that Streep played brilliantly, and Emily Blunt and the rest of the actors were outstanding.”

The editor emphasized that the film is filled with humor and wit, and that she personally was struck by the film’s satire, but also by its warm appreciation for the fashion industry. Wintour noted that, ultimately, The Devil Wears Prada is an honest and funny work that she and audiences enjoyed.

The film is based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel of the same name and is partly inspired by Wintour’s own experiences at Vogue. Anne Hathaway stars as Andy Sachs, Meryl Streep as Miranda Presley, and Emily Blunt as one of the key assistants. The ongoing series is filming in New York City, with Hathaway, Streep, and Blunt returning.

On The Run-Through with Vogue podcast, Wintour spoke candidly about whether she was genuinely “happy” with the way her character was portrayed in the film. She said she felt no resentment and did not think the portrayal was 100 percent accurate, but rather “cartoonish” in the best traditions of cinema. At the same time, the actors and director David Frankel created a film with humor and wit, which added points to the film in the eyes of the audience. Wintour remains an influential figure in the fashion world: she continues to hold the position of global editorial director of Vogue and the chief content officer of parent company Condé Nast. Her writing and commentary regularly become the subject of discussion in the industry, but with regard to The Devil Wears Prada, she chose to start the conversation in a light and positive way.
